Trout. this is what we are coming here for in 90% of cases. Wild, powerfull trout, living in the storng currents of this wild river. All methods can be used, however the most effective is what was invented here, before beeing known to the wide fishing world - heavy nymphs on a short line called the short or (unfairly with local anglers) czech nymph. Streamers in spring as in most polish rivers do best.

Autumn is the period for dry flies rather with increasing each year number of grayling being caught. To give you an idea of the difference between a "normal graylin" and a Dunajec grayling - a 40 cm fish from this river is about the weight of a 50 cm from the San, which is grayling paradise.

It wouldn't be fair if i don't mention the Huchen which is much more common here than in any european river, though as everywhere - not everyday's catch.

Acces to the river is quite good, sometimes annoying with the road passing just over its banks, but there is just one trouble - if you aren't good at river wading or have never tried it - better stay home. Dunajec in some places is the EXTREME in wading. Again comparing to the San - in the San you can get chest deep without any problems, and as long as the water doesn't get into your waders you can fish. Getting waist deep into the Dunajec is the limit in most places - so powerful and strong the flow is.

The river surprises with enormous varied types of waters on short stretches. The fishing really can be fantastic here!
